Improved WAN Reliability Enhances Student and Teacher Access while cutting $400,000 in costs
Cupertino, Calif., March 2, 2010 — Talari Networks, Inc. Talari Networks, Inc. and RSM McGladrey announced today that Eastern Iowa Community College District (EICCD) has deployed Talari Adaptive Private Networking (APN) appliances as part of a campus-wide, high performance Wide Area Network (WAN). APN technology will enable students and teachers, located on or off campus, to take advantage of a more collaborative learning experience by providing business-class WAN reliability, at a fraction of the cost.
RSM McGladrey, a leading professional services firm and a Talari Gold Value Added Reseller (VAR), was contracted by EICCD to deploy centrally driven technologies like desktop virtualization (VDI), Voice over IP (VoIP) and Enhanced 911 (E911). The schools' existing IT infrastructure was plagued with network congestion and frequent WAN disruptions. "A reliable and stable WAN is critical to the design of all the technologies we would be putting in place," says Tim Calahan, Managing Director, RSM McGladrey. "Implementing APN dramatically improved WAN reliability and predictability, and eliminated the need for wireless backhaul, generating a $400K savings to EICCD. This allowed us to deploy new and enhanced classroom technologies sooner than planned."
With completion expected during the 2010-2011 school year, the infrastructure will include supplementing EICCDs fiber network, which runs over the Iowa Communications Network (ICN), with low-cost internet bandwidth. Talari's Mercury T3000 APN appliance will be deployed at main campuses and Mercury T700 APN appliances at each of the remote campuses, including the disaster recovery (DR) data center.
"Talari's APN will not only create a more reliable and predictable WAN, it will enable EICCD to shape the student virtual local area network (VLAN) traffic," said Keith Morris, Vice President of Marketing at Talari Networks. "High priority, mission critical classroom and emergency applications, for students and teachers, will always have bandwidth available."
"EICCD was a relatively new client to us," says RSM McGladrey's Calahan. "Bringing Talari's new technology to the table helped show that RSM McGladrey is focused on client service, and that we work to creatively solve client issues. Talari's APN helped RSM McGladrey look really good to a new client."
About APN
Talari Networks' Adaptive Private Networking (APN) technology offers a revolutionary new approach to building enterprise WANs. By combining network bandwidth from the public Internet with RAID-like methods and overlay networking techniques, this technology allow enterprises to take advantage of inexpensive Internet bandwidth without sacrificing business quality, reliability or availability. It accomplishes this by combining diverse sources of bandwidth and end-to-end algorithms to apply dynamic, real-time, per-packet traffic engineering. By continually measuring loss, latency and jitter, APN adapts to variations in network traffic flow virtually instantly to ensure reliable, predictable application performance using all of the available bandwidth.
